Above and Below

Along with our Core Knowledge curriculum we also use a math curriculum called My Math. This week we began discussing positional words, and today we did above and below. This activity was a huge hit for both of them. 

First we read the book title Over Under by Marthe Jocelyn. After reading and discussing the book, we then played with manipulatives and moving them above and below each other. After I felt that they had a good grasp of above and below we began this fun activity.

First they colored all of their pictures, and then cut them out. They both were able to practice holding the crayon correctly and coloring in the lines. They both were able to work on their scissor skills as well.









My 4 year old was able to practice using scissors to cut on the dotted line.

However, this was my little 2 year olds first time ever using scissors on his own and he picked it up quickly. He can't quite cut on the line, but he was getting the hang of how to hold and manipulate the scissors.

We then glued the tree in the middle of the words above and below.



Independently they then placed the pictures either above or below the tree as they would see them in nature. Here they are!!!

And, of course it would figure that I would miss a week right off the bat like this!!
