One activity in our
Core Knowledge curriculum was to create a placemat with the child's name to
help the child identify his or her name. I thought this was a great idea and
wanted to take it a step further. We had been discussing how people were unique
and special, but we are all still people no matter what we look like or what we
like to do.

I decided to give both of my little ones the same color and size piece of paper, but let them decorate it any way they wish. They then talked about their placemat and why they made it the way that they did! From this we then talked about how they are both placemats just like we are all people, but each placemat had differences that made it unique and different just like people are all unique and special.
