The Book I Used to Learn to Crochet

When I was a little girl my mother and grandmother taught me the basics of how to crochet. Since I was 8 years old I knew how to chain, single crochet and double crochet, but nothing more. So, when I was pregnant for my daughter, 5 years ago, I got the itch to learn more.

I wanted to be able to make layettes, toys, and much more for her, and for her to  appreciate handmade as much as I did growing up.

I began the search for a book that was detailed in pictures and written descriptions for each stitch. I found this book A to Z of Crochet:The Ultimate Guide for the Beginner to Advanced Crocheter by Martingale and thought I would give it a try. 

I fell in love with this book and use it all the time! It has awesome photos, very well written description of how to make each stitch, and it also offers a variety of stitches! 

It is NOT a pattern book however.

The beginning of the book has many different tools that are needed as well as abbreviations for the stitches. I used this to help guide me in what tools that I needed to begin my crochet tools collection! It also covers a variety of yarn, which is very helpful for a beginner!

The book also includes fun tutorials on many different edges that you can put on blankets, scarves, how to crochet in the round, change colors, adding buttons and sequins, and so much more!!

I recommend this book to anyone who is learning to crochet! It has been so helpful and I still use it years later as a guide when I am learning knew stitches, need to refresh my memory, or trying a new technique!
